We have attempted to install the Aivia Community edition announced yesterday on a number of PCs in our institute, the only one it installed on, on the 3rd attempt, was a system which didn't have adequate graphics memory, so the application crashed out during file loading. On pressing debug, this appears to have something to do with the .NET framework installed.
Secondarily, other systems, all with more than adequate graphics card memory and power, reported that the installation file was corrupt on attempting to install, a situation which continued over a number of attempted installations. I just thought it would be useful for the community to realize that there may be an issue with certain PC configurations and the installation file. I look forward to seeing this version of Aivia in action though.
Thanks for letting us know about this @Darran Clements. Which message did you get that mentioned the .NET framework? I'll look into this in parallel, but for now you might try installing the latest .NET version: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download
Was the successful install completed with the same installer that was reported as corrupt on other systems?
Hi Trevor,
The .NET framework error was on the system where the installation finally worked, though the machine had inadequate graphics memory, the application installed. On trying to open a file (even demo files or ones which worked when using the full version of Aivia on our gruntiest workstation earlier this year) the app crashed. This message came up when I went into the debug console. I haven't persevered with the installation as the graphics memory issue was pointed out by Patrice.
Both the PCs capable of handling the application easily threw up "corrupted installation file" errors, though I don't have a screen snip of this. The one system had previously been running the full version of Aivia on it this year during a demo.
All the best Darran
Thanks Darran for giving us the details here. Could you please try to download the installer file again and see if you still have the "corrupted" message showing up?

Hi Darran, thank you for the reports.
Sounds like there are 3 separate issues here:
a) .NET version / dependencies. Based on your report we have updated Aivia Community to more broadly check for existing versions of .NET and ensure that the needed versions are present before proceeding with the install.
b) insufficient hardware to use Aivia (causes a crash when opening files or going into 3D). There is not a lot we can do to truly "fix" this. Using a PC with a Nvidia card that meets the requirements and that has up to date drivers should avoid the problem. In future versions we aim to add functionality to catch such crashes and handle them more graciously (i.e. error message instead of hard crash).
c) "corrupted installation file". We have not managed to replicate this one yet. Please try this:
- download the latest installer and try again
- when you try to install please make sure you are logged in with full admin rights and the machine is connected to the internet.
- if the error shows again, please take a screenshot of the error and check the Event Viewer and log for details.
The new build of Aivia Community is ready to use, download here.
Let us know how it goes!
All the best
Luciano
Hi Darran, there is a new build out with a potential fix for item c). Please try it and let us know. Download from here.
The main change is related to the compression algorithm used for the installer. We had recently changed to a more efficient (but less used/tested/popular) alg. and we think it may be at the root of some of the installation issues reported. We have reverted to the compression algorithm we have been using for some time. The downside is the installation file is bigger (300 MB, now).
Please test and let us know if this solves the installation issue.
All the best
Luciano (on behalf of the Aivia team)
